We are a full service animal hospital that has provided quality care to the Gardendale and surrounding communities since our opening in 2007. Our services include routine wellness check-ups and vaccines, surgery, internal medicine, dentistry, radiology, boarding, grooming, and daycare programs. At Mercy, we hope to build a relationship with you and your special furry loved ones.

We are located in Gardendale, AL and are proud to serve the Jefferson, Blount, St. Clair, Walker, and Shelby County areas. Your pet’s health and well being is extremely important to us and we will take every necessary step to give your pet the best possible care.

Dr. Miranda Trammell

Practice Co-Owner

Dr. Miranda Trammell graduated from Auburn University’s College of Veterinary Medicine in 2004. Following graduation, she joined a busy, small animal practice where her mentors provided her with invaluable experience. Dr. Trammell grew up in Forestdale, and has lived in the Gardendale area since graduation. She enjoys getting to know fellow members of the community and developing long-term relationships with pets and their families – both in and out of the exam room! Dr. Trammell finally met the perfect man who understands her, as well as her love for all of her crazy critters. They married in 2011 and have two children, Walker and Audrey Kay.

Dr. Brandon McKim

Practice Co-Owner

Dr. McKim earned his Bachelor of Science from the University of Montevallo in 2000, followed by his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Auburn University in 2005.

Dr. McKim has wide array of experience in medicine and surgery with a special interest and talent in orthopedic surgery. Dr. McKim is a native of Alabaster, Alabama, where he currently resides with his wife, Melissa, daughters Neeley, Madelyn and Nora and their dog, Newton and cats, Krispy and Aubie.

Dr. Robin Cider

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Robin Crider joined Mercy Animal Hospital as an associate veterinarian in June 2018. She graduated from Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2011. Since graduation, she practiced at a busy small animal practice in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Crider is a native of Monroe, Louisiana and she currently resides with her husband Jeremy and sons Jacob and Jesse in Homewood, Alabama. She has a Sphynx cat named Lillie.

Dr. Hayley Fanning

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Hayley Fanning joined Mercy Animal Hospital as an Associate in June 2020. Dr. Fanning is originally from southeastern Kentucky. She completed her undergraduate degree in Biology at Eastern Kentucky University in 2016 and graduated from Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine in 2020.
 
Dr. Fanning has special interest in dermatology and preventative medicine. In her free time, Dr. Fanning enjoys spending quality time with her 4 dogs – Penelope, Nash, Finn and Hank.

Dr. Alley O'Mary

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Alley O’Mary is originally from Winfield, AL. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Animal Sciences degree from Auburn University in 2016. She graduated in May 2021 from the Auburn University College of Veterinary Medicine, earning her DVM.

She and her husband, Hunter are excited to call Birmingham their home and have one furbaby named Gilligan! In her free time, she loves to read, be outside, watch Netflix and spend time with her family, husband and dog!

She is so excited to have joined the Mercy Animal Hospital team as an associate veterinarian and to be serving this community by loving and taking care of your pets!

Associate Veterinarian
Located in Gardendale, Alabama since 2007, Mercy Animal Hospital is staffed by a highly motivated, compassionate, and dedicated team of Fear Free trained and certified veterinarians and technicians. Our practice owners take pride in our positive culture and encourage a proportional work-life balance of our team members. We are committed to providing the best in small animal care for our clients and their pets, while offering reasonably-priced comprehensive medical, surgical and dental care.
Our doctors see patients Monday-Friday from 8a-6p and Saturdays from 8a-12p. We are seeking an experienced associate to join our team of two owner veterinarians and four associate veterinarians. Our ideal candidate embraces Fear Free techniques, has a positive can-do attitude and leadership mentality and is confident working independently in medicine in a high-volume hospital, performing multiple surgical and dental procedures weekly on a dedicated surgical day. We reward your excellence with a competitive compensation and benefits package, daily access to multiple DVM mentors, no after-hours emergency duties and minimal weekend requirements. We are open to part-time or full-time availability.

In this role you will:
• Work closely with our clients and their pets

• Provide patients with a high level of supportive care

• Assist veterinarians in providing care for pets including physical examinations, diagnostic and treatment procedures, pre-operative, surgical assistance and post-operative care, and hospitalization
• Work independently and as a team in an organized and efficient manner,  handling multiple cases on a daily basis

Requirements:
• Veterinary Technician certification or at least 1-year experience working in a veterinary practice as a veterinary technician or assistant
• Availability to work a rotation of weekends and holidays is a requirement

Job Description
A Client Services Representative (CSR) has influence with our clients that other positions do not and are the first impression a current or potential client sees or hears. At all times, a CSR must maintain a warm, yet professional appearance and demeanor. A CSR needs to be proficient in all of the hospital's protocols. A CSR must be efficient and effective, able to multi- task, and provide a liaison between client and veterinarian. Focusing on client satisfaction and client service is required at all times. Client satisfaction allows our clients to set the standard for all aspects of their care. Whatever a client needs, we provide to the best of our abilities, and the ability to anticipate needs is paramount.

• CSRs are expected to study and learn provided materials for veterinary terminology, abbreviations, vaccination protocols, prescription medication and diets and preventives.

• Intermediate computer skills. Basic arithmetic skills. Familiarity with veterinary software is advantageous.

• Excellent time management, organizational skills and multitasking abilities.

• Applicants should have experience or training in the customer service industry preferably in a veterinary setting.

• A high school diploma or equivalent is required.

• A friendly & cheerful demeanor and professional appearance is required. Client Service Representatives must be personable and empathetic and possess the ability to work well under distressing situations

As a Resort Staff Technician your duties will include but are not limited to; walking dogs outside in hot/cold/rainy conditions, cleaning kennels/runs including: walls/floors/ceilings/windows/doors, feeding/watering dogs/cats, bathing dogs/cats (including trimming toenails, cleanings ears, and expressing anal glands), elimination/feeding record notation, scooping feces from all parts of the inside and outside of the facility, notating of tasks completed in Avimark (veterinary software), housekeeping duties throughout the facility, inventory, OSHA awareness and compliance, extraordinary customer service and maintaining a practical knowledge of the hospitals procedures, services and policies. The expected manner of every team member is maintain a professional demeanor at all times, use appropriate medical terminology,support practice ownership, management and fellow team members at all times.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTION BASICS
• Bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, standing/walking on concrete floor up to 12 hours a day, typing, writing, balancing, twisting, squatting and rotating throughout the day.

• Moving animals from cage to cage, floor to floor, room to room. Restraining animals up to 200 pounds intermittently, lifting animals up to 50 pounds and lifting animals over 50 pounds with help.

• Ability to maintain an alertness level to keep safe from possible danger, resilience after disappointment or constructive feedback, compassion, to follow the ethical guidelines of your profession and this hospital, powers of keen observation for patient care, excellent reading/comprehension/legible writing skills, ability to negotiate with difficult people and problem solve and the ability to make rational and effective decisions.

• Keep team mentality in mind at all times, be prepared and willing to offer assistance and ask for assistance when needed, keep a positive professional outlook, completely abstain from gossip/negative observation regarding clients/team members or other professionals or other behavior that can whittle away at the healthy foundation of a team.

• Attend staff meetings, participate in hospital functions like open house, community efforts and special events. Be prepared to present topics at the occasional staff meetings.

ENVIRONMENTAL WORKING CONDITIONS
• Noise exposure from barking dogs and machinery.

• Danger of being bitten or scratched.

Dr. Virginia Foster

Associate Veterinarian

Dr. Foster joined Mercy Animal Hospital as an Associate Veterinarian in June of 2017. She grew up in Greenville, South Carolina but she fell in love with the Birmingham area while here visiting family and friends. After receiving a B.S. degree in Animal and Veterinary Science at Clemson University, she went on to attend the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine and earned her degree in 2017. Her curriculum emphasized both Large and Small Animal Medicine. She is very excited to be here in Birmingham and to have joined the Mercy family! Her special interests include internal medicine, behavior, ophthalmology and cuddling new puppies.

In her free time, Dr. Foster enjoys hiking, riding horses, tennis, and experiencing the great food and local entertainment of Birmingham.

Dr. Foster and her husband, Scott had a baby, Granger in April 2021
